Legal Experiences

Mediated a 15+ year litigation involving state, federal, and local government as well as NGO’s and private individuals where all parties transitioned from fighting to being amicable with each other.

Negotiated resolution with a number of farmers after a dam broke and damaged properties and houses successfully avoiding litigation and preserving the local community.

Argued with the State of Virginia and won to be able to successfully drill the first private, legal, hand dug well since 1987.

In general Michael is focused on how to preserve or restore peace among parties with a holistic approach tailored to each situation.

Work

After law school Michael spent a year at a boutique trust and estate planning firm in Hampton Roads, before spending a year as a trust company to gain a deep foundation in the trust and estates field of law where he could serve most anyone. Prior to law school he worked in supply chain management at a Berkshire Hathaway company (Precision Castparts Corp.), as well as in the family business involved with real estate (residential, commercial, and industrial) and farming.

Personal

Michael is happily married with four wonderful children. He is a lover of most all things outdoors and high adventure. If you like to go white water kayaking, he wants to join you! He loves canyoneering, hiking, skiing, and is getting into kayaking (seriously, if you have some good white water kayaking creeks or rivers, reach out!)
